The Whatcom Chamber of Commerce & Industry has just announced the recipients of its yearly business awards, with Louis Auto Glass, an auto glass repair and replacement shop, being chosen to receive the Large Business of the Year award.

The auto glass repair company is one of the oldest businesses in Bellingham, having been founded well over 8 decades ago. This gives it a special status in the local community, which knows the Louis Auto Glass name well, with generations having grown up with it. The business is also a private, family-owned one, run and owned by the Adelsteins of Bellingham.

Phoenix Windshield Replacement

To be selected for an award from the Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce & Industry is a prestigious sort of acknowledgement, and even though this is only the 7th year of the awards, the Bellingham business community is already quite aware of the prestige of being named a recipient of one of the honours.

There are typically 6 awards to be given out in all. These would be the awards for Large Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Non-Profit of the Year, and Green Business of the Year. Each award has a local sponsor. For example, the Large Business of the Year award was sponsored by Puget Sound Energy (PSE) this year, and the Small Business of the Year award was sponsored by Comcast. The Man of the Year award was under the sponsorship of People’s Bank, while the Woman of the Year award’s sponsorship went to Bellingham Alive!, with the Non-Profit of the Year award being sponsored by MeTV-KVOS and the Green Business of the Year award sponsored by Nooksack River Casino.

Windshield Replacement Arizona

The finalists for the awards this year were as follows: for the Large Business of the Year award, Little Caesars, Louis Auto Glass, Bellingham Cold Storage, Birch Equipment Rental & Sales, and Whatcom Land Title; for Small Business of the Year, Mt. Baker Harley Davidson, The Upfront Theater, K&K Industries, NautiGirl Brands, and Sunset Music DJ; for Non-Profit of the Year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of NW Wa; and for Green Business of the Year, Parberry’s Northwest Recycling. As mentioned before Large Business of the Year was won by the auto glass repair business, Small Business of the Year by K&K Industries of Bellingham, and the latter two awards by the only finalists named for them. The Man of the Year was William Maberry and the Woman of the Year was Harriet Spanel.

The Louis Auto Glass repair and services shop is also offering residential glass services, and is also a conscientious member of the local community in Bellingham, having donated as much as $200,000 to various philanthropic causes in the last year alone.

Termite control insecticides have long been judged according to these two traits: repellency and toxicity (which is sometimes alternatively called “lethality”, appropriately enough). The insecticides are measured for their ratings in both aspects, in order to determine how useful they are and what sort of application is most recommended for them. Various insecticides, after all, have been shown to be either more or less effective in certain applications and soils as well as in fighting specific kinds of termites.

Of late, however, there has been a gradual shift in emphasis regarding the ideal ratings of termite control substances in these two traits. Instead of high-repellence chemicals, chemicals with low repellence statistics are now being preferred. Furthermore, toxicity mechanisms are changing, with scientists and termite treatment developers and inventors recommending substances with what is called delayed toxicity.

Delayed toxicity in a substance means exactly what its name suggests: the lethal or poisonous aspect of the chemical does not take action upon immediate contact, but rather later on, following infection or contagion of an organism, as it were. The beauty of the delayed toxicity chemical is patent if you know how termites work. If soil in a passage has been impregnated with an instant toxicity substance, termites coming into contact with the soil would be likely to die almost upon contact and stack up there, blocking the passage. While other termites might in some cases try to clear out the blockage, it is far more likely for them to avoid it altogether, partly because they would learn to isolate the area where so many of their kind have clearly perished from some malign influence.

With a delayed toxicity substance, however, infected termites are able still to function normally for quite a while following contact, and may even go back to the colony. Since termites have a habit of grooming each other, the spread of the toxin would be very fast after that. This is why many termite treatment specialists are now opting for delayed toxicity chemicals in order to better the rates of infection for the poison.

Anti-termite chemicals that rank high in repellence are best considered termite prevention substances instead of termite control ones, scientists explain, and termite control experts agree. After all, there is a significant difference between applying an insecticide with the intention of killing an infestation that has already taken root in your home and applying it with the intent of preventing such infestations from happening. With a termite prevention chemical, you need high repellence because you want to prevent the termites from even crossing the boundary. But if the termites have already passed that line of defense, the solution has already moved to elimination, not mere prevention.

State Farm Insurance released data based on its claims records to determine the probabilities of deer to vehicle collisions for each state as well as the months on which such collisions were most likely to happen. The company relied heavily on claims such as those for windshield repair, auto glass repair and replacement, auto body repair, and the like. And according to the data, now is the perfect time for drivers to exercise even more vigilance than usual, as the figures show a consistent rise in deer to vehicle collisions in the last three months of each year.

As expected of its terrain, West Virginia is the place highest on the list—and this for what is now the fourth consecutive year as first-place on the list. Thousands of windshield repair and auto body claims are made every year in that state, many of them due to cars colliding with deer appearing from nowhere. The likelihood of slamming into a deer while driving in W. Virginia is about 1 in 41.91 (the precision of statistics allows for decimal places, after all). The second-place state, Iowa, came in at chances of 1 in 67.09.

Naturally, states with denser forests and shrubbery near the highways and roads saw higher occurrences than others. For example, Arizona with its fairly clear spaces posted a respectable 1 in 1,788.47 chance of hitting a deer while driving—pretty slim, one might say. Still, that figure is nothing compared to Hawaii, where drivers only have a 1 out of 13,011.28 chance of getting into a deer to vehicle collision. Hawaii has consistently placed at the bottom of this list in the past years of State Farm running the statistics.

It only stands to reason that the collisions would increase in the fall-winter period: this even goes beyond the animals’ habits and natural instincts of migration at this time. It is not only deer to vehicle accidents but other types of collisions that go up in occurrence rates, after all, due to the lower visibility caused by shortening daylight hours and earlier-encroaching darkness. As a result, more drivers have to be out and on the roads in poorer light during fall and winter, bringing up the chances of accidents.

The least drivers can do is to have their headlights on whenever driving at darkening times. Another duty drivers should make sure to cover is the maintenance of their windshields and auto glass. Broken windscreens should be taken in for windshield repair as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of crack propagation and limits on visibility and damaged auto glass should be replaced in like manner, to provide a driver with a clear line of vision at all times.

Electric Insurance, the national personal and commercial insurance provider, just introduced a new service to its line that makes it easier for clients to schedule auto glass repair arrangements, among other things. The insurance provider’s Always On Mobile Application permits people with iDevices (such as iPhones and iPads) to perform a variety of self-service insurance functions that can greatly speed up the insurance and claims process in many ways.

According to company executives, the functions of the Always On app are myriad, covering auto glass repair scheduling, submission of automotive claims, roadside assistance service request and arrangement, coverage status checking, and even insurance information exchange, all direct from the mobile device in question. The CIO of Electric Insurance, Tom Stumpek, has called the delivery of mobile solutions to clients a “key business strategy” for the company, especially in terms of its aims to provide higher and better service advantages for policyholders.

The Always On application is apparently going to be seeing further development in years to come, in order for the company to ensure that it keeps up with changing trends and new technological developments. It is in keeping with this drive towards the future and the constant update of technology that the Always On application has also been equipped with what company executives are touting as a unique feature of their service app: a locator for electric vehicles’ charging stations.

Los Angeles Personal Injury Attorney

The VP of Sales and Marketing for Electric Insurance explained the incorporation of this feature as one that was only to be expected given the rise in numbers of electric vehicles on American roads. The company’s relationship to GE was also invoked, as it was explained that GE would soon be having a sizable fleet of electric cars itself in the coming years. Given that Electric Insurance is affiliated with GE—in fact, it was begun as an insurance solution for GE employees before it expanded its offerings to those outside the GE group—it is only appropriate for it to acknowledge this coming trend in North American automobiles. Electric Insurance has also released information that it plans to install its own charging station for electric vehicles by next year. This station shall be available to everyone.

The advantages of the Always On Mobile Application are easy to see, and Electric Insurance policyholders have thus far responded positively to the release, finding it a handy device for scheduling unexpected insurance needs on the go, from auto glass repairs to full-on tow services. The application was developed with Sword Insurance, which specializes in mobile solutions and mobile device applications for companies in the insurance industry. Electric Insurance CIO Stumpek has professed the company pleased with the collaboration thus far and praised Sword Insurance for its professionalism.
